JOB SUMMARY

This full-time, at will hourly position is responsible for cleaning, maintenance, upkeep of the Meals on Wheels Kitchen building and grounds.  This position also delivers meals for Congregate and Meals on Wheels as needed.  May also assist volunteers and light office duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following:

  1. Cleaning of all areas of the building including windows. Cleaning includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing, waxing, and all activities required to maintain the building to the highest standard possible
  2. Painting areas as needed
  3. Plumbing and general repairs of offices and kitchen
  4. Mowing of grass, shoveling of snow, weeding and maintenance of outside grounds
  5. Substitute driver to deliver meals to various Nutrition Sites and Meals on Wheels clients
  6. Must obey all traffic laws when on agency business
  7. Maintain the delivery vehicles making sure they have regular maintenance
  8. Must perform light office duties as needed
  9. Variabilities in schedule may include evenings and weekends depending upon need
  10. Other duties may be assigned and/or requested from time to time in fulfillment of the agency’s mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The maintenance person is responsible for maintaining the building and grounds, making sure all areas are clean and in good working condition.  The success of the position relates to the continued excellence of Health Department Inspections.  This position is also responsible for making sure the building is kept in good condition for the safety of all volunteers, visitors and staff.  This includes making sure the floors are clean, furniture is in good condition; the isles are clean and clear. The position creates a regular routine to make sure the building is kept clean so that all who work and visitors have a pleasing visit to the facilities.  Bathrooms are to be kept in good working condition and must be kept clean.  The employee will learn Nutrition routes and act as a backup driver as needed.  This employee will work evening caterings as necessary, helping to set up and clean up as needed.  This person will handle additional errands as deemed necessary by the Director of Nutrition & Transportation or Food Truck & Catering Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of general plumbing, electrical and small lawn/outdoor equipment.
  • Knowledge of floor cleaning equipment.
  • Good/Clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of 5 county area streets and roads.
  • Ability to lift milk-crates, pans of food, etc. of up to 50 pounds
  • Organized and flexible
  • Knowledge of Health Department regulations

 DIFFICULTY OF WORK

This position requires ability to operate small outdoor equipment and have a working knowledge or plumbing and electrical work.  This position requires the operation of floor cleaning and polishing equipment and any other cleaning equipment to maintain the building.  This position requires driving a HotShot vehicle for food delivery.  These vehicles maintain temperatures of food product and the driver must keep an eye on the temperature gauges to ensure food safety.  This position requires the ability to lift furniture, equipment, food, supplies, food pans, some of which may be very heavy or hot/cold without spilling or dropping the food.  This person must turn on the ovens at the appropriate nutrition sites if a Site Director or Volunteer is not present when dropping off the food or to put the food in the refrigerator as appropriate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually on their feet.  While putting away supplies the employee may be required to go up and down stairs and may be asked to work in the cooler or freezer to put supplies away or get supplies out.  The employee is usually seated while driving but must be on their feet while loading their vehicle or delivering the food and supplies.  Physical effort is required.  Some travel required.   Some inclement weather may be encountered when delivering food and supplies.

  • Valid driver’s license and good driver history is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Successful candidate must submit to a pre-employment drug screening. a limited criminal history check, National Sex Offender Registry check and driver history check.
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period.
